THE WHITE BEAR INN
 STILLINGTON
YORK

"a traditional pub with exceptional beers and excellent food"

Phil Robinson, who along with his wife Sue owns the White Bear, is a man passionate about the beer that is served there. He firmly believes in the preservation of the traditional local brewers art as witnessed by the minimum of 5 quality cask beers which are on tap at any one time. As a freehouse he is able to give space to brews which are not usually seen alongside each other, Timothy Taylors, Black Sheep, Theakstons, Sam Smiths.York Brewery, all lovingly nurtured and served  in sparkling condition. As he says, this is a tradional pub and a traditional pubs reputation is built on the quality of its beer and mine is some of the best.

Since they moved to Stillington, some 11 years ago, Phil and Sue have striven to make and keep The Bear as an integral part of the village community. Although its burgeoning reputation now draws clientele from many miles away they still like to think of it as a local.
There is a very warm and genuinely friendly atmosphere apparent around the gleamingly polished bar, lots of space to stand and chat  but with comfortable seating a plenty if required. Some of the pictures on the  walls show evidence of another local trade, horse training and racing, devotees of which regularly visit to discuss their sucesses and such over a pint of Phils best.

The reputation which the Bear has for its quality beers is now equalled by that of the food which it serves. Good ingredients, imaginatively cooked and beautifully presented by the kitchen team at exceptionally good value prices as evidenced by the attached menus.
The menus, which are changed regularly, offer a number of  dining options

The Prime Time for Early Evening
The a la Carte All Day
The Daily Specials

Great emphasis is placed on the sourcing of the produce used in all of the dishes on offer and it is only bought from the best of regular, local suppliers

Good natured team work and commitment to quality, underscored by the knowledge and experience gained by Phil in his earlier positions in some of Londons finest restaurants, Browns, Inigo Jones and Yorkshires Pool Court, create in The White Bear a wonderful atmosphere in which to savour exceptional beers and truly excellent food.
